Hi, my name is Christopher Bourgeau. I am studying at Montmorency College, in Laval.My field of study is, science because I want to become a doctor. This glossary will help students studying in sciences that are interested in medicine. The words in the glossary are words that are common in the medicine world and that you will see a lot. By learning those words it will help you in your future job, if you are trying to be a doctor.

Example: He has not currently had any immunisations, as he was hospitalised the day before his appointment.

Example: As Mental Health Nurses deal with a vulnerable client group with whom it is easy to adopt a paternalistic attitude, this must at all times be balanced with a person centred approach to care; continually checking, reflecting on and updating our practice to ensure that client autonomy is respected as much as possible.

Meeting between a doctor and a patient.
Example: Services and responses need to be geared so that patients and their families experience positive health care encounters, and effective communication skills are needed to achieve a positive health consultation.

Example: Although from the history it sounds an unlikely diagnosis, the most important one to rule out in a female of reproductive age is an ectopic pregnancy.

Example: For Alice, a 17-year-old girl living and coping with this chronic disease, its physiological symptoms may be mild or negligible, its major impact on her life being the daily blood glucose tests, dietary restrictions and insulin injections which can appear to be inconvenient, burdensome, even debilitating tasks to some young sufferers.

Medical gloves are examples of personal protective equipment that are used to protect the wearer and/or the patient from the spread of infection or illness during medical procedures and examinations
Example: When staff were dressed in mufti it was reported that they were much more aware of the need for cleanliness and tended to wear gloves and aprons for increased periods of the day for protection and were also more aware of the need to wash their hands more frequently (Sparrow, 1990 Pride, 1995) suggesting the risk of cross contamination would therefore be reduced if staff wore mufti.
